The hiss of the air lock opening warned of the next shipment of parts. Lucy’s head bobbed up from her crafting bench, the magnifying goggles strapped on heightened an insect-like appearance alongside the segmented plating of her crafting vest. Her co-workers oft teased her for such a creature-like attire but she reveled in it. What better way to ensure the legitimacy of her creations than to become one with them?
Lucy pushed away from her bench and practically bounced over to the vault doors. The hues on her skin shimmered with anticipation as her four arms set to keying in the convoluted entry code on the access panel. The metal door soon slid open to reveal Ep standing on the other side with a small crate crooked in each of his four arms.
Seeing the luminescence of her skin Ep smirked and shook his head. “You and your inventions. So what blue ball critter you replicating this time?”
Lucy giddily grasped the items as she held up a finger to correct him “Earth. The intelligent lifeforms call their planet earth.”
Ep rolled his eyes “Fine, earth. But what are you making *from* earth this time?”
Placing the crates by her bench Lucy rifled through a set of blueprints she had recently drawn up.
“I’m going to craft what their ancient texts call a turtle. Or at least what *one* of their languages called it.”
